Back to Entertainment: Our Final Weekend!

Sun, 28 Aug 2011

Well, it's sure been a bumpy ride this season! Rain-outs, hurricanes, heat waves...This weekend we culminate our 2011 Summer Concert Series with artists that you will surely remember!

Friday, join us for the return of one of our most popular guest, The Diamonds! It's been over Fifty years since THE DIAMONDS released an instant million selling hit called Little Darlin'. The song continues to sell worldwide and to date has sold over 20 million copies. Through the years since the release of Little Darlin' THE DIAMONDS have learned one important lesson-the durability of 1950's music is as much about the future as about the past. As a result, THE DIAMONDS continue to expand their audience to this day by performing in a myriad of surroundings, including: with Symphony Orchestras, in Performing Arts Theatres and major concert halls, on cruise ships, in casinos, at county and state fairs, on tours of England, Ireland, Brazil, Chile, Korea, and Japan, for benefit concerts and conventions, at nightclubs and, through the most recent addition to their repertoire, the Christmas show "Silver Bells And Diamonds".

Saturday, one of our traditions continues with the return of Mario Rocco. Mario Rocco has been entertaining audiences for over 25 years. Having opened for such stars as The Temptations, The Drifters, The Coasters, Olivia Newton John, Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge, Eddie Rabbit, Tammy Wynette and more. Mario was also selected to perform in Washington, DC for the President at a 911 benefit concert. His ability to involve the audience is magical. Having a great time is very important & Mario makes that happen with his audience appeal. The variety of music & show Mario calls, "The Parade of Stars" combines a mixture of some recognizable performers, with a finale you won’t forget. The Mario Rocco Show truly is an event that is enjoyed by all who witness it. He looks forward to seeing you and making you smile!!!

Sunday, we will have the DSU Approaching Storm Marching Band! The Delaware State University Band is a comprehensive program dedicated to academic excellence, citizenship and musical development of its members. The band program has four components: marching band, concert band, jazz band and pep band. The Delaware State University Band is under the direction of Mr. Randolph J. Johnson, who is assisted by Mr. Jerry Winding. Additional assistance is provided by Mr. Chester Knapp, a Delaware State University alumnus and a former member of the Approaching Storm. The band has gained both national and international acclaim, performing in England and the Netherlands and in the National Football League at Veterans Stadium, Ravens Stadium, JKF Stadium and the Pontiac Silverdome.

Rain, Rain, You're Gone...Aren't You?!

Sun, 21 Aug 2011

With the last weekend being an almost complete washout, we hope to bring you entertainment that makes up for the empty feeling you may have for FREE music in Rehoboth!

Friday, join us for some yacht rock from the Regal Beagles! 6 cool dudes in loose moods bringing you the finest yacht rock from the land of pleasant living. The smooth rock sounds of the late 70's thru the mid 80's. Whether it be the cheesy goodness of Hall & Oates or the complex cool of Steely Dan, it's all yacht rock baby and it's all good. All the great songs and guilty pleasures you grew up listening to. Feel the waves of nostalgia wash over you as hit song after hit song takes you back to the days of listening to the am radio while riding around in your parent’s station wagon. Prepare yourselves for the looks of amazement that you and your friends will share as The Regal Beagles deliver one song after another that you have never heard any other band play live. Although the sounds of Yacht Rock are light and breezy, they are deceptively difficult to recreate. The Regal Beagles are 6 of the Mid-Atlantic region’s finest players and singers and it still took over a year of rehearsal to get this band ready for the stage. You won’t believe how effectively this band recreates every nuance of the AM Gold era. And it’s not just the sounds of the era that the guys bring to the party. You’ll also get a good chuckle out of their snazzy costumes and lighthearted, funny show. So, if you’re looking for something fun and fresh, Yacht Rock is what you need and The Regal Beagles is the band to bring it to you. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME SOFT ROCK?!?

Saturday we have a season favorite, North of Mason Dixon (NOMaD)! North Of Mason Dixon, aka NOMaD, made a tremendous splash on the regional country scene in late 2004 after placing third in a highly publicized, country showdown competition; Since then, this steadily climbing, beyond high energy act has garnered a great deal of success and shows no signs of slowing down. Opening for national acts like Brooks and Dunn, Toby Keith, and Rascal Flatts (to name a few), being solicited by several tourists destinations such as Ocean City, MD and the Poconos, having performed as a featured artist at some of the areas biggest events and venues (Dollar Bank Jamboree, Post Gazette Pavilion, and the Pepsi-Cola Roadhouse), and performing for such organizations as the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Penguins, this Pittsburgh based band delivers a refreshing and unique sound they call "Hard Rockin' Modern Country" that defies any other description.

Sunday brings us a local favorite, Lower Case Blues! Blues is a genre which has been evolving and expanding since the early 1900's... lower case blues plays a modern, energetic style blues while still remaining true to its roots. Influences ranging from Hard Rockin Blues to New Orleans Funk with a mix of Jazz and Soul.. lcb is a group that thrives on improvisation and crowd response. Jake Banaszak's guitar style wails, cries, sings, and shreds while BJ Muntz's soulful voice and funky bass lines will blow your mind!! The band has shared the stage with greats such as Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Los Lonely Boys, Robert Randolph and was selected as Best Band in Delaware 2009 in Delaware Today Magazine.

All performances begin at 8pm.

Coming Down to the Wire

Mon, 15 Aug 2011

It has been a wonderful summer with some of the best entertainment that we have ever had perform FREE for us all season!

Join us this Friday for a talented group of musicians, The Blue Tips Rhythm Revue. The Blue Tips are not your typical variety band that merely blends the expected oldies with today's radio hits. Instead, these guys keep dance floors packed and concerts rocking by breathing new life into classic soul and motown favorites: music that every generation knows and loves. Their charm is due in large part to their relative youth when compared to the style of music they play, and their exuberant live performances reflect both their love of this music and their skill in playing it. The band features a 6pc lineup including a smokin' brass/horn section, and the incomparable Elliot Currie on lead guitar and vocals. Elliot's style and energy will remind audiences that rhythm & blues music is not just in name alone: its a style that comes from deep down in the soul.

Saturday is one of our largest attended performances, The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus. From Boston to Bombay, Tokyo to Toronto, The United States Army Field Band has been thrilling audiences of all ages for more than half a century. As the premier touring musical representative for the United States Army, this internationally-acclaimed organization travels thousands of miles each year presenting a variety of music to enthusiastic audiences throughout the nation and abroad. Through these concerts, the Field Band keeps the will of the American people behind the members of the armed forces and supports diplomatic efforts around the world. Since its formation in March 1946, the Field Band has appeared in all fifty states and in more than thirty countries on four continents. The organization's four performing components, the Concert Band, the Soldiers' Chorus, the Jazz Ambassadors, and the Volunteers, each travel over 100 days annually. Tours include formal public concerts, school assemblies, educational outreach programs, festivals, and radio and television appearances.

Sunday, a brand new group will perform for us, The Lloyd Dobler Effect. Lloyd Dobler Effect have been full time touring musicians for almost a decade, having performed in over forty states and thirteen countries. Based out of Silver Spring, MD., LDE has gained a stellar reputation on the national college circuit. They have performed on the same bill with such notable artists as Santata, Steve Winwood, The Fray, Jane’s Addiction, Eminem, The Strokes, The Goo Goo Dolls, Good Charlotte, The Roots, Jack Johnson, Better Than Ezra and 3rd Eye Blind, among others. LDE’s multi-layered and upbeat music showcases their universal appeal to both mainstream modern rock lovers and culturally diverse audiences.

All performances begin at 8pm.

Stepping Up to the Heat

Sun, 7 Aug 2011

We take full credit for the recent heat! Our performances have been HOT!

On Thursday, we're continuing our August entertainment with a wonderful opportunity to see an evening movie with our Cinema by the Surf! Beginning as close to sundown as we can (around 8:15pm), the creators of the beloved "Toy Story" films re-open the toy box and bring moviegoers back to the delightful world of Woody, Buzz and our favorite gang of toy characters in TOY STORY 3. Woody and Buzz had accepted that their owner Andy would grow up someday, but what happens when that day arrives? In the third installment, Andy is preparing to depart for college, leaving his loyal toys troubled about their uncertain future. Lee Unkrich (co-director of "Toy Story 2" and "Finding Nemo") directs this highly anticipated film, and Michael Arndt, the Academy Award®-winning screenwriter of "Little Miss Sunshine," brings his unique talents and comedic sensibilities to the proceedings.

Friday night, enjoy a new performance on our bandstand. ANOTHER LEVEL has developed a reputation as one of the mid-Atlantic region's hottest dance and party bands. Each member has toured with top name stars from Prince, Patti Labelle, James Brown, Earth Wind and Fire, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and many others! Each member brings a versatile talent and unique flavor to the group to form soulful renditions of Motown's greatest oldies, R&B, funk, jazz, rock'n'roll and pure soul! ANOTHER LEVEL’S love for great music sets the standard which shows through every energetic and enthusiastic performance.

Saturday brings us back to our roots with the Boilermaker Jazz Band. The Boilermaker Jazz Band is an ecstatically fun band performing authentic hot jazz and swing. The group has a wide repertoire that can make an audience swing to a classic jazz standard, get sentimental over an old-time ballad, boogie to a hot jump tune, or get low-down with a gritty blues. From concert halls to dances, festivals to family parties, listeners and dancers agree -- with their infectious beat and enthusiasm this band can make any crowd move! Everywhere they go, they deliver the good feelings that real jumpin’ jazz can create. Paul and the Boilermakers have recorded six critically acclaimed CD’s and have received rave reviews for their excellent live performances. The Boilermakers have been featured on radio shows across the country and overseas, including a National Public Radio Jazz Series that was broadcast on over 50 stations.

Sunday evening is a wonderful opportunity to hear a local artist perform. As with fine wine, the sounds of Paul Cullen continuously improve with time. A musician for over 30 years, most notably as the bassist for English rockers “Bad Company” in the early 90s, Paul has been to the pinnacle of his profession, playing in front of more than 2 million people. Since then, Paul has followed his true passion of playing nylon string Cool Jazzy Acoustic Guitar, inspired by great musicians like Jesse Cook, Jose Feliciano, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Pat Metheny, to name a few. Based in lower Delaware, Paul is roaming the Mid-Atlantic promoting his solo CDs Dreamdance and Paradise while working his new endeavors, his Eleven Sundays CD and private label wine Sonata, both due out before the summer. Playing live is what Paul is all about. He loves mixing cool jazzy versions of current, classic and original compositions for your grooving pleasure.

Thursday's performance beings at sundown, all other performance begin at 8pm.

Welcome to August!

Through hard work and dedication, the band has reached great heights having played some of the best venues/events in the tri-state area.

Saturday night we have a special guest who has performed for us in the past and brought wonderful, professional music to our area. Somewhere between the coal mines and steel mills, mountain streams and majestic rivers, where blue collar meets corporate America, The New Relics have absorbed life around them and set it to music. Having been described as a band that "writes the perfect driving music" The New Relics blend great country, rock and Americana into a sound that is the soul of modern American music. With comparisons having been drawn between The New Relics and the likes of Pat Green, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts and John Mellencamp, the band delivers a fresh radio friendly sound with great lyrics, storytelling and hooks that will have fans singing along. Their attitude is simple, deliver music that gives the everyday man a sense of place and optimism.

Sunday brings us a local artist, Larzine. With a voice often reminiscent of master song stylist Nancy Wilson, Baltimore 's own Larzine puts the elegance in swing, jazz and popular music that makes you want to tap your feet and dance. A frequent performer at night clubs, concerts and jazz festivals, Larzine offers the best in jazz standards in her own style with the talented Joe Holt Trio. Always a crowd favorite, Larzine makes a performance oh so special. One sophisticated lady, song stylist Larzine is on the scene with music that makes you smile.

Professional Music

Mon, 11 Jul 2011

One of the great things about the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand is the opportunity to see groups that you may not have already seen, or can only be seen at our venue. This weekend is a great example!

Since we are a beach town, it's only appropriate to have The Key West Band perform for us on Friday! This wonderful group has been with us before and brings an amazing collection of music with them! Key West is the band to have for a high-energy night of Caribbean influenced music. Voted the number one party band by the Roanoke Times and Best Local Band of 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2005 by the Roanoker Magazine, Key West has opened for many national acts including The Tams, The Drifters, The Coasters, The Kingsmen, Jan and Dean, The Box Tops and Cravin’ Melon. With a large supply of Jimmy Buffett songs as well as Reggae’, Creole, Latin and original songs this band can turn the darkest of winter nights into an island party. Their music crosses so many boundaries they have become a staple in the corporate, festival and college markets. The typical Key West audience is a multi-generational, energetic, loyal group of followers known as Island Trash.

Last year, Dan May performed for us with rave reviews! We are thrilled to have him back this Saturday. Singer-songwriter Dan May’s career path has taken more twists and turns than a corkscrew in a hurricane. He has worked as a grave-digger, television cameraman, short-order cook, nuclear missile security guard, gas station attendant, ice cream truck driver, delivery man, amusement park worker and greenhouse laborer; all before the age of 25. While studying music composition in college, he inadvertently stumbled upon an international opera career that forced him to leave a promising future as a songwriter behind. Cut to 15 years later, and after a vocal chord surgery that left him no longer able to meet the demands of opera, Dan returned to doing what he does best; writing and performing his own songs. Since his cross-over from classical to popular music, Dan has hit the ground running. With three critically acclaimed albums under his belt, his upcoming release, Dying Breed, is an impressive follow-up that will almost certainly be embraced by fans and critics alike.

Sunday brings us a new artist who is very much up-and-coming in the music industry. Come out and see Shelly Rann before she takes off in her music career! Shelly Rann is a charismatic performer with natural beauty, genuine charm and a sense of humor that immediately endears her to audiences everywhere. In her young career, Shelly has had her songs featured on the NBC network award-winning prime time shows The West Wing and Third Watch. In addition, Shelly has shared the stage with Vince Gill, Trace Adkins, and Alabama, and has performed on the Capital Lawn for the President and 20,000 others to honor fallen officers at the National Fraternal Order of Police Memorial Service. Her songwriting talent and uniquely gifted voice quickly caught the attention of the Nashville songwriting community and she has collaborated with some of the very best writers including Gary Burr (Kelly Clarkson), Kent Blazy (Garth Brooks), Larry Cordle (Alison Krauss), and Mark Nesler (Tim McGraw). Her songs are introspective, and reflect her life experiences casting her as a true artist that possesses one of the most beautiful, passionate, and expressive voices in music today. Shelly has recently finished “Afterwords”, her first major studio album produced by Henry Paul (BlackHawk) and Dale Oliver (Bucky Covington) released in 2011.

All performances begin at 8pm.

Cinema, Eagles, and Some Great Friends

Tue, 5 Jul 2011

What a great 4-day weekend it has been for our entertainment! What's better than that? Another 4-day weekend of entertainment!

On Thursday, join us for Cinema by the Surf, sponsored in part by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society. Bringing in a giant screen, we hope you will join us for a drive-in style movie, Nanny McPhee Returns. This presentation will begin as close to dusk as possible, most likely around 8:15-8:30pm.

Friday, a new and much anticipated performer to the bandstand will arrive. 7 Bridges : The Ultimate EAGLES Experience is a stunningly accurate tribute to the music of the Eagles. Using no backing tracks or harmonizers, 7 Bridges faithfully re-creates the experience of an Eagles concert from the band’s most prolific period. Every show features one brilliant hit single after another with some mighty Don Henley and Joe Walsh surprises sprinkled into the mix. 7 Bridges offers the perfect blend of songs to capture all levels of Eagles devotees. 7 Bridges is a tour de force of talent combining incredible musicianship, vocal precision and a stage presence that has garnered them nationwide acclaim. The band features Jason Manning as Glenn Frey, Keith Thoma as Don Henley, Bryan Graves as Randy Meisner/Timothy B. Schmit, Ray Neighbors as the eccentric and unpredictable Joe Walsh, Douglas Gery as guitar wizard Don Felder, and Vernon Roop as Joe Vitale, the often unsung hero of many Eagles studio albums and live performances.

Saturday, one of our local favorites, the Tim Laushey Orchestra will perform for us. From his first professional job at age 14 to the present, drummer Tim Laushey has provided both listeners and dancers to a driving, swinging beat that is as fresh today as it was when he first fell under the spell of drumming legend Gene Krupa. Starting with Ronald Reagan's Inaugural Ball in 1980 and again in 1985, the list of show business legends that have had Tim Laushey behind them reads like a Who’s Who: Lee Castle and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Ray McKinley, Warren Covington, Charlie Spivak, Sammy Kaye, Bob Crosby, Les Elgart, Tex Beneke, Bob Eberele, Vaughn Monroe, and Johnny Desmond lead the list of bands that Tim played with while these great musicians were still with us.

Sunday will bring another local act, OH BOY! A Tribute to Rockabilly. Walt Hetfield, locally renowned Buddy Holly surrogate, has expanded beyond his alter-ego persona to bring audiences OH BOY! A Tribute to Rockabilly. Featuring band mates Barry Eli, Ken Schleifer and Mike Long, OH BOY! revisits the genre of West Texas rockabilly along with the original style that came out of Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee.

We hope you will join us for these wonderful and unique performances!

July 4th and Other Patriotic Shows

Fri, 1 Jul 2011

This is going to be a busy weekend. We are certain of that! To be quite honest, we haven't helped the situation by bringing in such wonderful patriotic entertainment! As we get ready for the fireworks on Monday, July 4th, we encourage you to enjoy the other nationally dedicated acts throughout the busy weekend:

Friday, we have the 287th Army Band. The 287th Army Band provides music throughout the full spectrum of military operations and instill in our soldiers the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens, and promote our national interests at home and abroad.

Saturday, join us for one of our most popular guests, Jesse Garron! Jesse Garron is a talented Elvis tribute artist who portrays Presley from his early start to the Vegas years. Jesse Garron has opened for Bill Haley's Comets and shared the bill with acts such as Lonestar, Travis Tritt, and the Temptations. Whether providing an opening act or headliner, Jesse Garron Productions is garronteed to entertain.

Sunday, we have another patriotic group, the Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic. The Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic will present an exciting brand of patriotic music, classical, swing favorites, show tunes and other kinds of selections considered the gold standard of the concert band repertoire. They include Shostakovich’ s spirited Folk Dances, excerpts from Johann de Meij’ s thrilling symphony, The Lord of the Rings, and MSgt Andrew Callo’ s own arrangement of America the Beautiful, featuring vocalist A1C Clayton Lee. SSgt Andrew Lowe and A1C Alicia Brackbill will be featured in the whimsical trombone and trumpet duet Cousins , written by Herbert L. Clarke. Various talented soloists will be showcased throughout the program. The show has something in it to please every listener, and let’ s not forget a toe tapping march or two. What concert would be complete without a rollicking march by American bandmaster John Phillip Sousa!

Monday...the big day! We have two groups for you. Beginning at 8pm, we are honored to have the US Navy Country Current perform for us. As the premier country-bluegrass ensemble of America's Navy, Country Current has a rich 38-year heritage of playing America's best bluegrass and country music. Today's Country Current performs a diverse mix of bluegrass favorites and cutting edge country music. Dynamic stage presence, musical excellence, and lighthearted, family-friendly humor are hallmarks of the band's performances. A perennial favorite at national bluegrass festivals, Country Current shares the stage with some of the finest bluegrass artists. This year, Country Current became the very first military band to perform at the highly acclaimed SXSW (South by Southwest) music festival in Austin, Texas.

Following this performance, we will have our annual firework celebration (more information).

After this performance, don't leave town! Why fight the traffic? Join us for our annual performance from the Funsters! The Funsters will perform from around 9:30pm until around 11pm. It would be hard to find a band that has more fun than The Funsters. That is why they are still entertaining thousands of people after 12 years of playing together. In this ten-piece band there has not been one personnel change in twelve years. That tells the whole story of the secret of The Funsters' success. Not only are these guys great musicians who share a pride in each other's musical abilities, but they are also friends. This spirit and camaraderie on stage is what sets The Funsters apart from other bands offering the same type of musical entertainment.

Hurricane Earl

Wed, 1 Sep 2010

So it must be so...on our last week, we have a severe threat of a hurricane. As we keep a close eye on this upcoming storm, notifications of our shows will be posted online via our website, Twitter, and Facebook. Depending on our location, we may not leave a message on our answering machine. Please note that we may not be able to reschedule our performances, as there are many parties involved in our events, and not everyone has a free schedule when moving performances.

Thank you for your support of the bandstand and remember to stay safe this weekend!

Our Final Week

Wed, 1 Sep 2010

As we come to a close for the 2010 Summer Concert Series, we are pleased to have provided you with some wonderful and exciting entertainment throughout the year. We hope that you have been able to attend a few performances that have enlightened you to the joys of music through the variety that have been present in Rehoboth Beach. In the coming weeks, we will supply you with a concert survey and ways to find new entertainment throughout the year. But wait! We aren't done yet!

We have rescheduled the Cinema by the Surf showcase of This Is It for THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND. This performance will begin as close to 8pm as possible. With all of the complexities of the Jackson family law suits, there will be NO SHOWINGS OF THIS MOVIE AFTER THIS DATE. We, however, have secured the ability to show this movie to our visitors as one of the LAST public viewing venues for an indefinite amount of time! This is a very special privilege and will not come around to any other venue. We encourage you to come to our showcase on Thursday, September 2nd!

On Friday, the return of a local favorite, the Eddie Sherman Show, will perform at 8pm.  Ed Shockley, Peggy Raley, and Sherman Ward perform music of a sweeter, bygone era as the Eddie Sherman Show. Frontman Sherman Ward and sidekick Ed Shockley have been performing rock, soul, and R&B collectively and individually for more than 30 years. As the 80's rolled in, Ward noticed that the music being produced was deficient in many areas, had little staying power and held no point of interest to him as he listened. Yearning for music with some meaning, he was drawn to the big band era with the magical dynamics of great orchestras and their singers. The music borne of this era fueled the repertoires of performers in nightclubs all across America. He knew he had found his calling. Ward founded The Eddie Sherman Show on the premise of the lost art of the variety show. By inviting other musicians and performers into the mix, a gig was suddenly transformed into a musical showcase.

Saturday, join us for our closing party with Mario Rocco!

Michael Jackson Returns

Wed, 25 Aug 2010

Upcoming Shows

Wed, 25 Aug 2010

Friday
U.S. ARMY FIELD BAND AND SOLDIERS' CHORUS - From Boston to Bombay, Tokyo to Toronto, The United States Army Field Band has been thrilling audiences of all ages for more than half a century.

Saturday
KING TEDDY - At the intersection of swing, rockabilly, and jump blues is where you'll find King Teddy, happily hanging out and humming Beatles tunes. Although our influences are varied (including everyone from Louis Prima to Sam Cooke to Gene Vincent to the a-fab-forementioned quartet), we are single-minded in our musical mission-- to swing, baby!

Sunday
RIGHT FOOT RED - Right Foot Red has been described by fans as "the ultimate party band." Based out of Baltimore, MD, Right Foot Red has been bringing their unique brand of oldies and R&B, 70's funk and disco, 80's pop, and 90's and modern rock to satisfied audiences since 2002. Whether they're playing a wedding in formal suits, or a 70s theme party in bellbottoms and afro-wigs, this band offers a music variety to please any age or music taste.

This Weekend

Mon, 16 Aug 2010

Friday - No matter the occasion you can't resist the dance floor when Groove Train takes the stage. No matter the audience, Groove Train will captivate you with an exciting blend of music from the days of disco, providing 3 shows that consist of groovy costumes, outrageous hairstyles, showmanship and an array of special effect lighting. Groove Train will take your next event on a fantastic voyage back in time. Groove Train will travel the world for almost any event; wedding receptions, private parties, night clubs, corporate events, benefit concerts, etc. So give us a call and let your next special event be the one everybody is talking about!

Saturday - The United States Navy Band "Sea Chanters" chorus is the official chorus of the United States Navy. The ensemble performs a variety of music ranging from traditional choral music, including the sea chantey, to Broadway musicals. Under the leadership of Senior Chief Musician Russell J. Rathier, the Sea Chanters appear throughout the United States and often perform at the White House, the Vice President's home and for other Washington dignitaries. In 1956, Lt. Harold Fultz, then the Band's assistant leader, organized a group from the Navy School of Music in Anacostia to sing chanteys and patriotic songs for the State of the Nation dinner. An immediate success, Admiral Arleigh Burke, Chief of Naval Operations, transferred them to the Navy Band, named them the "Sea Chanters" and tasked this all-male chorus with perpetuating the songs of the sea. In 1980, the group added women to their ranks and expanded their repertoire to include everything from Brahms to Broadway.

Sunday - The Blue Tips Rhythm Revue are not your typical variety band that merely blends the expected oldies with today's radio hits.

Special Showings

Mon, 9 Aug 2010

This weekend, we would like to draw your attention to our outdoor movie series! If you have been to our shows in the past, you know that we have a great selection of family-friendly showings sponsored by the Rehoboth Film Society. HOWEVER...the showing this Thursday of Michael Jackson's This Is It will be something that you do not want to miss!

With all of the complexities of the Jackson family law suits, there will be NO SHOWINGS OF THIS MOVIE AFTER AUGUST 15TH. We, however, have secured the ability to show this movie to our visitors as one of the LAST public viewing venues for an indefinite amount of time! This is a very special privilege and will not come around to any other venue. We encourage you to come to our showcase on Thursday, August 12th!

Friday, the US Navy returns to the bandstand providing us with the US Navy Country Current!  The United States Navy Band's "Country Current" country-bluegrass group is the Navy's premier country music ensemble. The seven-member group was formed in 1973 and quickly established itself in all aspects of country and bluegrass music. The group is under the direction of banjoist Chief Musician Keith M. Arneson. Touring the country each year in support of Navy Recruiting, they have performed with such artists as Boots Randolph, Charlie Daniels, Vince Gill and David Ball. Country Current performed at the "Branson Cares–Help Start the Healing" tribute to the citizens of Oklahoma City and at the Glen Campbell Goodtime Theatre in Branson, Mo., on Memorial Day in 1995. Other credits include the Grand Ole Opry, Wheeling Jamboree and the Academy of Country Music Awards show.

Saturday, a new act to our bandstand, but a standard in Delaware will showcase.  With a distinctive blend of Ska, and Soul- the Bullbuckers bring the party and rock the house. WINNER OF THE SPARK MAGAZINE SUMMER SERIES 2009. "A fusion of soul-searing and foot-stomping music - ska like you've never heard it (unless you were living in the Islands in the 60s), soul and a tinge of hip-hop. It's a Wilmington sound that has roots - and fans - round the globe." The Band has performed with The The Slackers, The Pietasters, Robert Randolph, Trombone Shorty, Bonerama, and Wailers.

Sunday, another brand new act to the bandstand brings us classic rock and country!  Fat Girl Slim is a hard-driving, high-energy band with music ranging from past and present rock to the lastest modern country. Currently working on their more family oriented Spring/Summer outdoor concert series, FGS engages their audiences by bringing kids up on stage for a little air-guitar, slinging out T-shirts and giving out prizes for Chrissy's trivia questions. If you are looking for the band that "covers it ALL with exceptional musicianship and tight vocal harmonies", Fat Girl Slim is that band! With soaring vocals and instrumental virtuosity second to none, they have been making fans and followers everywhere they play.

Did Someone Ask for Variety?

Wed, 28 Jul 2010

Looking at this weekend's schedule, there's no doubt that we try to accommodate all forms of musical entertainment!

This Friday, join us for the much anticipated return of North of Mason Dixon (NOMaD). This group rocked the bandstand last year with their new country stylings and are sure to bring their excitement back with them again!

Saturday, concert bands return to the bandstand with the City of Fairfax Band. Since its formation in 1969, the City of Fairfax Band has grown from a small, summer-season ensemble to one of Northern Virginia's best-known volunteer community performing groups. The City Band is a non-profit organization of over 120 members who enjoy providing high-quality musical performances to the Northern Virginia community. Fairfax Band musicians, all with a strong commitment to the organization and a shared love of music, want to promote musical growth and education among students and residents alike. The City of Fairfax Band is unique in maintaining high musical standards while remaining open for membership to qualified players. Musicians of the Band continue to apply their talents and musical energy toward the goal of performance excellence both individually and as a team for their community. In serving that goal, we are rewarded by great enjoyment in making music that brings pleasure and enrichment to expanding audiences in a growing community.

Sunday, bring your parrots along for the ride as we celebrate the carribean stylings of the Key West Band!

2 Weeks of Wonderful Entertainment!

Mon, 12 Jul 2010

These next two weeks will be PACKED with fantastic entertainment! Beginning on July 15th, there will be a special showing of Annie [G]! This 'drive-in' style showing is presented to us thanks to the Rehoboth Film Society and will begin as close to 8:15pm as we can (depending on light conditions outside). If you haven't seen one of our outdoor movie productions, mark your calendars now to visit our venue!

Friday, July 16th, join us for the Milford Community Band. The band started as the "Milford Adult Community Band", but dropped the "Adult" after a few years. Membership is open to anyone who has a horn and can read music. The major purpose of the band is to provide a place to play. The members come from Bridgeville, Clayton, Dover, Ellendale, Felton, Georgetown, Greenwood, Harbeson, Harrington, Lewes, Smyrna, Lincoln, Magnolia, Milford, Millsboro, Milton, Rehoboth, Seaford, and Selbyville.

Saturday, a new performer, Dan May, will perform folk rock for us! Since his cross-over from classical to popular music, Dan has hit the ground running. With two critically-acclaimed albums under his belt, The Long Road Home, is an impressive follow-up that will almost certainly be embraced by fans and critics alike. Produced by GRAMMY-Award winning producer and engineer Glenn Barratt (Melody Gardot, Lizanne Knott, Amos Lee, Jill Scott), The Long Road Home is a seamless tapestry of unforgettable melodies and clever, engaging lyrics; all delivered in a rich and soulful voice that speaks to both the head and the heart. From the haunting introduction of "Water Under the Bridge" to the lonesome longing of "Nightbird" and the heart-breaking waltz of "Irene," listeners are taken on a musical journey of genres and emotions that will leave them wanting more.

Sunday, a very popular group, Remedy, will perform classic rock! Remedy was formed with the intent to provide a unique and professional musical experience from both performance and booking flexibility components. As the group formed with many of the best musicians in the area, it became apparent that the musicians shared a deep love of performance, the music we play, a high degree of professionalism about what we project to the audience, and the arrangements we perform. Good is just not good enough for us!

But wait, we're not done yet!

Friday, July 23rd, join us for the Porkroll Project!  The Porkroll Project is a hard rocking 6 piece contemporary blues band from the Philadelphia area. The band is known for its high energy blend of original blues tunes and fresh covers. The band has a collective experience that runs deep and wide, having played together in various other projects for over ten years. They are seasoned veterans of events such as the Philadelphia Jam on the River, the Red Bank Jazz and Blues Festival, and the Wilmington Riverfront Blues Festival.

Saturday, YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS! A "Top Ten Finalist on America's Got Talent" will showcase on our stage! Drew Stevyns, a prolific singer song writer who has been singing since the age of two, developed his abilities as a singer songwriter in quite a remarkable way. It’s a craft that Stevyns has spent years honing. The Maryland native spent his childhood singing in England in church and choirs. Music has always been a quiet intensity that has encompassed the path Stevyns continues to follow today.

Rounding out our weekend, join us for the Laurie Morvan Band on Sunday, July 25th. Her guitar playing style sprang forth as an evolutionary leap into life from that primordial soup of electric blues, rock, and country she was listening to. She says, "Nothing had ever felt so real, so visceral, so expressive, so passionate, so sexual, so nurturing, so spiritual, so painful, so healing, so thrilling, so demanding, so all-encompassing and so perfectly suited to me. I genuinely feel most complete with my guitar in my hands and I don't expect that will ever change."

80's, Classics, & International

Mon, 5 Jul 2010

If you love the 80's, you'll love The Real Geniuses! A great performance last year immediately made us book this group again for this upcoming Friday! The Real Geniuses are absolute party czars and purveyors of the best, catchiest, most funnestest, '80's songs you ever heard. They are not "just a cover band", because they infuse all those songs you've winced to, drunkenly sung along to using your thumb for a mic, or drank wine coolers at the pool at midnight to, with a militant bravado and derring-do that makes them seem brand-new. Everyone's fun-meter will go into meltdown when these lads mount the stage.

Saturday, join us for a local favorite, the Tim Laushey Orchestra.

Sunday, take a trip abroad with Tres Compadres.  Tres Compadres is a modern flamenco ensemble that explores the boundaries of flamenco and fusion while embracing the elements of tradition that make this genre of music such an incredible art form. Inspired by such notable artists as Paco de Lucia, Gerardo Nunez, Tomatito, and Vicente Amigo, Tres Compadres continues the legacy of seeking new ways of applying musical growth to an old tradition.  The band tackles such flamenco song forms (palos) as buleria, rumba, solea por buleria, tangos, tarantas, and solea. Tres Compadres shows its’ jazzy side on Fandangos, does a Latin inspired version of Chick Corea’s Armandos Rumba, and puts a world music edge to the Cat Steven’s classic Longer Boats.

Delaware Coast Gulf Aid

Tue, 29 Jun 2010

We are thrilled to announce that this Friday's performance of the Po'Boys Brass Band will have a donation jar available for a DIRECT donation to the Delaware Coast Gulf Aid fundraiser, being held on Wednesday, July 14th, 2010!

Delaware Coast Gulf Aid is the creation of a coalition of Delaware Coast people and businesses, shocked and saddened by the horrific devastation caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Home to the Inland Bays, one of 28 national estuary systems that provide critical habitat for coastal marine life, our community is inextricably linked to our neighbors in the Gulf.

Please do your part to come out and support free entertainment, charity, and a wonderful night!

Happy Birthday, America!

Tue, 29 Jun 2010

On Friday, enjoy a brand new group to the bandstand, the Po'Boys Brass Band!  Founded by a bunch of trombone players that were fed up with sitting in the back of orchestras and jazz bands, the Po'Boys Brass Band is a 7-piece power house of brass, funk and ROCK. The four-trombone front line produces a sonic explosion of sound that breaks all preconceived notions of what the trombone is capable of.  The band has close ties to the great city of New Orleans guides the group spiritually, owing a lot of their sound concepts to the Rebirth Brass Band, Bonerama, the Dirty Dozen, Professor Longhair, The Meters, Dr. John, and many more. The band's current lineup of musicians consists of an all-star cast of characters that are all either alumni or current students at the Eastman School of Music, including a radio announcer, country singer, doctoral candidate, and even a dean.

Saturday, get to the bandstand early to get a seat for an act that brings in people from all over.  Jesse Garron will perform at 8pm bringing you a talented Elvis tribute artist who portrays Presley from his early start to the Vegas years. Garron's "Tribute to Elvis" has opened for Bill Haley's Comets and shared the bill with acts such as Lonestar, Travis Tritt, and the Temptations. Whether providing an opening act or headliner, Jesse Garron Productions is guaranteed to entertain.

Sunday will be the big event!  Join us for our TWO spectacular performances!  Beginning at 8pm, the Chesapeake Silver Coronet Brass Band will present to us their patriotic celebration music.  Following this show, the fireworks celebration will showcase around 9:15pm (weather permitting).  For the best information on the fireworks, we encourage you to visit this link.

BUT WAIT!  Don't leave just yet!  After the fireworks, we are happy to have a Delaware favorite, The Funsters, perform for us for another hour and a half!  Enjoy a cool, calm night in Rehoboth on a magical evening filled with celebration!

We certainly hope you will join us for this wonderful weekend of entertainment and celebration in Rehoboth Beach!

We are thrilled that the Tim Laushey Orchestra has accepted our invitation to perform as well as several special guest performers with details later to come...including a visit from Santa Claus!  Hot drinks will be provided for our guests by our local VFW, post 7447.

We look forward to having you as our guest to this joyous event!

Electronic Submissions ONLY

Sun, 11 Oct 2009

As we prepare for our 2010 season, please keep in mind that performers will only be evaluated electronically. This means that performers must have some kind of presence on Sonicbids, their own website, or some other means that allows for viewing of the information, listening to their music samples, or viewing their videos online. In doing so, this will greatly decrease the amount of time needed to evaluate new performers, eliminate the need for groups to purchase stamps or mailing materials into the City of Rehoboth Beach.  All submissions that arrive via US mail or some other means other than through an electronic source will not be considered.

Do not submit your information through our contact form, as it is used only for direct communication from the public (not groups). All submissions for performances made through this form will be rejected.

If you would like more information on the kinds of groups that we book as well as some general performer information, please visit our information page by clicking here.

If you have any questions with this process, please let us know.

In the coming weeks, we will supply you with a concert survey and ways to find new entertainment throughout the year.  But wait! We aren't done yet!

This Friday will bring us the Volunteers of the United States Army Field Band. The Volunteers is the United States Army's premier touring show band. Since its inception in 1981, this talented five-piece group has performed in all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Belgium, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Performances by the Volunteers have included Mardi Gras in New Orleans, the Indianapolis 500, Nashville Now, the Calgary Stampede, and many state fairs and festivals across the country. The band has also appeared at sporting events of the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, Florida Marlins, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Saturday, a staple 'closing ceremony' for the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand brings back a Delaware entertainer, Mario Rocco. The variety of music & show Mario calls, “The Parade of Stars” combines a mixture of some recognizable performers, with a finale you won’t forget. The Mario Rocco Show truly is an event that is enjoyed by all who witness it. He looks forward to seeing you and making you smile!

Tropical Rock, Country, & a Symphony...OH MY!

Tue, 18 Aug 2009

As we come to our last few weeks at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, we are pleased with the remaining selections. They provide us with brand new acts of variety, quality, and above all: FUN!

Friday brings us a very popular Tropical Rock & Roll group well known around the area, but never featured on the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. Captain Quint has always seemed to steer their boat into more uncharted waters, straying away from the stereotypical mixtures of margaritas, palm trees and hammocks and offering up something a little more unique. Something that trop-rock fans across the country have called - "refreshing". Something Captain Quint have dubbed... "Real Tropical Rock and Roll" - They have arrived at that destination with "Unsinkable Still."

Saturday brings in a regional country group known as The New Relics.

Sunday is a first for the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. Never in the 46 year history of the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand have we ever been able to feature the Delaware Symphony Orchestra! We are pleased to have an ensemble group perform with us on Sunday night. Under the direction of Maestro David Amado, the Delaware Symphony Orchestra is the State's only professional orchestra. Performing to over 60,000 people annually, the Delaware Symphony performs a wide range of symphonic music from the traditional classics to pop and chamber repertoire.

Long Weekend of Entertainment

Mon, 10 Aug 2009

This week we mark the the middle of the August month with 4 acts that are sure to please. If you haven't made it out to see one of our Cinema by the Surf movie selections, this is the one to see!   With the growing popularity of musicals, one Broadway hit made it to the big screen, and we are excited to show it on ours! Mamma Mia! will debut in Rehoboth Beach this Thursday beginning around 8:15pm. Set on a colorful Greek island, the plot serves as a background for a wealth of ABBA songs. A young woman about to be married discovers that any one of three men could be her father. She invites all three to the wedding without telling her mother, Donna, who was once the lead singer of Donna and the Dynamos. In the meantime, Donna has invited her backup singers, Rosie and Tanya.

Friday brings in a nationally recognized act, Julian Fleisher. His broad range of music brings in such acclaim as "A New York nightclub supernova" declares the LA Times. "The Human iPod" says The Baltimore Sun. "Smart, genre-busting pop" reads The New York Times Magazine--and with good reason. Anticipating the revolutionary genius of the iPod and the iPod Shuffle by years, Fleisher's shows have always eschewed the the dull constraints of old-fashioned categories in favor of a free-wheeling, eclectic, post-modern approach to entertainment.

Saturday will be a big one! Grab your seats early for the return of the United States Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus.

Sunday brings us a new and local group known as Hindsight 20-20. Hindsight 20-20 is the Cape Henlopen School District’s "House Band." Made up of hard working teachers and administrators they regularly play local gigs to raise money for the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation. In the past three years, the band has helped raise over $30,000 for teacher mini-grants, student scholarships and special programs. Their music runs the classic spectrum from Southern Rock to British Rock and Motown. Whether you sing along or dance along, every tune is one you know and love.

Specialty Artists

Mon, 3 Aug 2009

This weekend at the bandstand, we will host a specialized group of performers. These artists are masters in their craft and ready to perform for Rehoboth Beach!

First up on Friday, the United States Navy will present their award-winning choral group, the Sea Chanters.

Saturday will bring us a brand new country act, known as NOMAD.

Local Sussex County musicians bring us a tribute to the late Buddy Holly on Sunday, called Oh Boy, a Buddy Holly Tribute.  To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the passing of the late great Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Buddy Holly, Walt Hetfield has put together a four-piece tribute band and stage show. The group features Hetfield as Buddy and guitarist Mike Long, bassist and pianist Barry Eli, and drummer Ken Schleifer reprising the role of his back-up band, the Crickets. The band plays note for note versions of Holly’s music along with other rockabilly classic that are part of his story and legacy.

Beatles, Classics, and 80's...Oh, Boy!

Mon, 27 Jul 2009

We can't stress enough how much FUN this weekend is going to be! With so many people looking forward to this weekend, we are sure you will be entertained!

Friday will bring us Liverpool Beat, an authentic Beatles tribute band! The hottest sound-alike Beatles Tribute Band on the East Coast! Relive the Music, the Magic and the Mania of a LIVE Beatles concert as the Fab 4 take you on a journey through the Early Years with hits like, She Loves You, I Want To Hold Your Hand & Twist And Shout! See the Lads in costume with the original instruments, amplifiers & accents. This is a Show you don't want to miss and promises an evening of Fun & Entertainment for the whole family!

Saturday is one of our most popular and professional concert bands.  The City of Fairfax Band always brings us a huge crowd with they music choices and high entertainment quality.  The City of Fairfax Band is unique in maintaining high musical standards while remaining open for membership to qualified players. Musicians of the Band continue to apply their talents and musical energy toward the goal of performance excellence both individually and as a team for their community. In serving that goal, they are rewarded by great enjoyment in making music that brings pleasure and enrichment to expanding audiences in a growing community.

Sunday will bring the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand something that we have not been able to provide so far, 80's pop and retro music!

Something for Everyone

Wed, 22 Jul 2009

The Rehoboth Beach Bandstand prides itself on the ability to provide a variety of acts to the passersby of the local venue. This weekend, there will certainly be an eclectic mix to grace our stage.

Friday will bring us a brand new group, the Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition. The Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition is one of the hottest bluegrass bands in the mid-Atlantic area, complete with a hard driving traditional and contemporary sound. A love of bluegrass is deeply ingrained in the hearts and souls of these five world class musicians and they have been winning the hearts of bluegrass fans from all who have heard them play. Using the tools of their trade, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and bass fiddle, the Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition offers traditional and contemporary compositions laced with three part harmonies and bluesy solos.

Saturday is a unique grouping of individuals dedicated to exposing the essence of Andean Music in a completely unique way. While their music style appears to fit into the New Age category, it often sounds like world music, contemporary jazz, Latin or mainstream popular. They believe their music is a fusion that crosses over all of these without leaving the boundaries of Andean Music. Come join us for the Mystic Warriors!

Sunday will close our weekend with a local artist group who has been around Rehoboth Beach for decades and is known for numerous achievements. The Art Curley Combo plays jazz as well as beautiful ballads. Art Curley retired from WGMD in Rehoboth and plays the saxophone and clarinet. Dr. Pru Rosas plays piano, Joey Willard plays guitar, and Don Sharp is on trombone and trumpet. All are professionals who know their instruments and the music that we all love and live with. They’ll bring to the audience smiles and plenty of memories.

It's Gonna Be Fun!

Mon, 13 Jul 2009

This weekend will be VERY exciting for all involved with the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand! We are thrilled to have the events that we have this weekend.

If you haven't had a chance to see any of our outdoor movies, this summer is definitely your chance!  The first showing this year is the popular movie, Footloose, starring Kevin Bacon, on Thursday.  Thanks to the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, we will bring in a large screen, projector, and 'dim the lights' :) for some great old-fashioned drive-in movie feel!  Under the stars with a great sound system, this movie will be something not to be missed!  We will begin this movie at dusk, or around 8:15pm.

Friday, we will bring in a new group to the bandstand performing Caribbean music, including some from the popular entertainer, Jimmy Buffett!

Saturday is one that you can not miss!  We have brought this popular Philadelphia-based group down again to rock the bandstand!  Performing music of all genres, this party band has been a huge hit every year!  Contagious is a high energy party dance band. Their style is defined by the exciting mix of explosive rhythms, powerful melodies, and grooves so deep that they propel you out of your seat and onto the dance floor. Contagious Band covers multiple musical styles and genres, and is guaranteed to deliver pure passion and energy to our stage!

Sunday is another new performer, Matt Wigler. A 15-year-old piano sensation from Ellicott City MD, Matt brings his blend of blues, jazz, and boogie woogie to the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. Matt has played at festivals across the U.S. and in Canada, including the Monterey Blues Festival (CA), Cincy Blues Fest (OH), Artscape (MD) and Beaches International Jazz Festival (Toronto). Matt has shared the stage with Buckwheat Zydeco, Deanna Bogart, Marcia Ball, Tommy Castro, Tab Benoit, and others. Matt has also opened for blues guitar greats Buddy Guy and Joe Bonamassa. Next year, Matt will be featured in a documentary on blues pianists that will be broadcast on PBS stations nationwide. Matt’s debut CD, Thirteen, was produced by Deanna Bogart and released June 2007. It has received rave reviews and is being played on radio stations throughout the US and Europe.

This is a great weekend to kick back, relax, and enjoy some much needed FREE entertainment in Rehoboth Beach!

The Fireworks are Over, but the Fun is Just Beginning!

Sun, 5 Jul 2009

We are very pleased with the July 4th ceremony and the crowd that it brought to the Rehoboth Beach area. With such great acts over this past weekend, it's hard to imagine it getting any better...but it does! This week will also be a great way to celebrate our country as well as showcase some of our local acts!

Friday we will host the Navy's premier jazz ensemble, the "Commodores," as they present the finest in America's truly original music. A specialty unit of the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C., the group features 18 of the Navy's top jazz and "big band" musicians. Under the leadership of Chief Musician Philip M. Burlin, the Commodores combine the best of jazz and popular music.

Saturday will be the popular Tim Laushey Orchestra.

The members come from Bridgeville, Clayton, Dover, Ellendale, Felton, Georgetown, Greenwood, Harbeson, Harrington, Lewes, Smyrna, Lincoln, Magnolia, Milford, Millsboro, Milton, Rehoboth, Seaford, and Selbyville.

Friday is a very, very popular American performer, Jesse Garron.  Jesse's return to the bandstand is a much anticipated "Tribute to Elvis" performance has opened for Bill Haley's Comets and shared the bill with acts such as Lonestar, Travis Tritt, and the Temptations. Saturday is the big day!  We are truly honored to be chosen as a performance venue for the United States Navy Country Current.  This top-notch country-bluegrass group is the Navy's premier country music ensemble. The seven-member group was formed in 1973 and quickly established itself in all aspects of country and bluegrass music.  This performance will begin at 8pm.

The fireworks will begin around 9:15pm on this day!

BUT DON'T GO ANYWHERE!  The night is far from over!  Following the magnificent fireworks presentation, we will have the local classic rock group, The Funsters!  This annual tradition has brought Rehoboth Beach a wonderful show year after year.  Not only are these guys great musicians who share a pride in each others' musical abilities, but they are also friends. This spirit and camaraderie on stage is what sets The Funsters apart from other bands offering the same type of musical entertainment.  So instead of fighting the traffic, stay and enjoy the show!

Sunday will conclude our patriotic weekend with a performance from the 287th Army Band.  The 287th Army Band provides music throughout the full spectrum of military operations and instill in our soldiers the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens, and promote our national interests at home and abroad.  Musical elements of the 287th Army Band will include the Rock Band performance!

Another Great Weekend of Variety

Mon, 22 Jun 2009

With the given economy, we are thrilled that so many people were able to attend our first concerts in Rehoboth Beach! By our count, it was a record number of attendees to our opening weekend, making the 2009 Summer Concert Series something to see!

This week's performances will also bring a large crowd as well as a large variety of music! On Friday, June 26th, the Maryland Community Band will bring their concert band styling to our bandstand. This popular group has a great following as they perform many styles of concert band music and covers the needs of the audience wonderfully.

Saturday night will prove to be a huge show as well! The Dover All Stars are a collaboration of Delaware classic rock bands that gather each year to perform for the crowd as a reunion event. They are re-invented each year as a celebration of local Delaware talent from bands that played at high school dances in the Dover area in the 1960s and 70s and then, in some cases went on to tour with nationally known acts. Each year another one of the 60+ musicians who have participated in this annual event will step forward, organize the group, arrange rehearsals and come up with a song list that's sure to please the entire family.

Sunday, we bring you the big band sounds of The Generations. The Generations Big Band is a community band that has been together since 1985 and has consistently been performing at public and private venues throughout Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

We have a variety of performers ready to go to bring you FREE music! Come on out and enjoy a special night out on the town!

Online Submissions Only

Thu, 14 May 2009

With the advent of the Internet, finding acts is much easier when artists are able to promote their own music through their own websites, EPK's, or Internet media.  The Rehoboth Beach Bandstand is working to eliminate all forms of hard-copy media submissions and move toward online submissions only.  In doing so, we will be able to cut down on mailing packages, postage, storage, and other peripherals that take up unneeded space and time for both the performers and the promoters.

We suggest that groups who are interested in our Summer Concert Series 2010 to begin, if they have not already, thinking of ways to promote themselves online.  We supply online submissions through our affiliate, Sonicbids, as well as will provide a way to submit your materials online later in the year directly on our website.  We hope that this way will be faster, cheaper, and more effective for all involved and will continue to make the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand a modern facility in all aspects of performance.  For more information on our requirements, please visit this page.

Cape Henlopen Jazz Band

Tue, 12 May 2009

As a special performance, the Cape Henlopen High School Jazz Band will perform on Friday, May 15th beginning at 7pm. The group will be using the venue as their spring concert venue and we are excited to be able to provide them the opportunity to do so on our local stage. Although this performance is not part of our Summer Concert Series, it is still a welcomed event at our bandstand and we hope to see some familiar faces in the audience to help support our young, local musicians.

To All Performers

Mon, 6 Apr 2009

On behalf of the City of Rehoboth Beach, I would personally like to thank all of the performers and entertainers who have submitted materials for this year's Summer Concert Series.  The responses to our events have been overwhelming and the amount of talent that we had to choose from was far and above anything that we could have ever expected.  As of today, we are completely booked.  If you weren't able to get a spot on this year's series, please do not despair.  As the budget shortfall made for a smaller amount of performances, some groups simply did not fit in our schedule.  We hope to bring back our usual four-day entertainment schedule next year and more groups will have the opportunity to perform with us.

There are some great acts coming to Rehoboth Beach and we look forward to providing some more great entertainment to the area.  Thank you for your interest in performing and we look forward to working with some more wonderful groups very soon!

-Corey Groll

The 2009 Schedule is Up!

Fri, 3 Apr 2009

We're happy to announce that the 2009 Summer Concert Series is up on our schedule page for all to see! There are a few dates that are still in limbo, however we are anticipating that they will be closed soon. We have tried very hard to make sure that there is something for everyone! Whether you enjoy country music, military groups, classic rock, cover bands, and even brand new acts, we are certain that there is a great mix as well as a great balance of music and entertainment this year.

We look forward to this season with high anticipation. Knowing that the budget had been reduced made for quite a job to ensure that the entertainment schedule would be jam packed with quality entertainment.  With the huge amount of support and musical submissions, the job became very easy to select great groups, and very hard to turn away acts that we simply couldn't fit this year...HOWEVER...they will be invited in future years!

So keep checking back to ensure that the schedule is accurate (remember, the schedule posted on this site is the official schedule and not affiliated with other sites reproducing our pages).  We look forward to seeing all the acts and all of our dedicated audience members this upcoming year!

Easter Sunrise Service

Sponsors and Donations

Sun, 4 Jan 2009

It is a great thing to have such a unique venue that provides such wonderful memories to so many families. Although the economy is showing some signs of struggle, it is the mission of the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand to provide FREE entertainment to all that attend Rehoboth Beach.  Our decision to reduce the amount of performances has, as expected, ruffled a few feathers.  Some visitors have already inquired why the need to reduce the performances must be enforced.  The City of Rehoboth has made it an active goal to reduce the amount spent in all budgets.  The Rehoboth Beach Bandstand is also accepting this challenge.  Some reasons for the reduction include the following:
  1. performance average prices have consistently increased yearly
  2. gas prices have added booking fees to larger groups, such as military and concert bands
  3. a reduction in Thursday performances will reduce the Bandstand performance budget by up to 1/4
  4. the reduction only affects 10 performances
  5. we are not planning this reduction to be permanent
We are committed to keeping the performances FREE for all involved.  Contrary to popular opinion, there are very limited performers who wish to provide free shows.  For this reason, the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand has been considering sponsorships of their performances.  By providing funding from an outside source, we will be happy to include our Thursday night performances again.  Donations for single performances, for multiple performances, and for the entire booking schedule will be gladly accepted.  If you are considering a donation or sponsorship for the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, please visit www.rehobothbandstand.com/sponsors for more information.

No matter your donation amount, we are happy that there are those who wish to continue the tradition of the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand.

Rehoboth Beach Bandstand Limiting Performances

Thu, 1 Jan 2009

In an effort to provide free entertainment to the visitors of Rehoboth Beach, the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand will reduce their performance numbers for the 2009 Summer Concert Series. Due to the current economy, performance dates will be reduced from a 4 night schedule to a 3 night schedule. Beginning in mid-June and running through Labor Day weekend, the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand will schedule performances on every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night beginning at 8pm (please check our online schedule for exact showtimes).

Scheduling for this year’s performances will begin in late January and February of 2009 and continue until the schedule has been filled with music and entertainment. If you are interested in performing in these limited spots, please visit the information page located at www.rehobothbandstand.com/information to learn about our criteria.

Our Final Week

Mon, 25 Aug 2008

Well...this is it! Our final week of performances. This year has certainly gone by faster than we thought, however it sure boasts to end with a bang! On Thursday, don't forget to listen to the one-of-a-kind sounds of the Jazz Ambassadors of the U.S. Army Field Band. This unique band, formed in 1969, has been entertaining the world with their incredible selection of music spanning many decades of big band and jazz.  Their performance is always one that is highly anticipated and a strong crowd pleaser!  On Friday, a new group will debut on our bandstand.  The Slicked Up 9's will showcase their swing music sounds and provide an evening full of entertaining music and pleasing dance styles.  To end our Summer Concert Series, we will have our popular tradition of the Mario Rocco Band performing classic rock and oldies that will leave your feet stomping until next year's shows!  We certainly appreciate all of the positive feedback about our free performances and hope that the bandstand continues to provide as much entertainment in the future as it has in the past.

Ready for a Party?

Mon, 11 Aug 2008

This weekend is sure to be a hit!  All 4 days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) will bring incredible bands to our lineup.  On Thursday, don't forget to visit the bandstand for a complete performance from the Volunteers of the US Army Field Band.  They first visited the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand on July 4th, however due to rain, we had to cut them performance short to allow for the fireworks display.  On Thursday, they are bringing their entire show back for us all to enjoy!  City Rhythm will showcase their act on Friday, August 15th.  This incredible dance band is sure to bring some excitement with them as their horns blast away into the night with tight rhythms and upbeat music!  Saturday will be one of the most anticipated party bands of the year.  Last year, Contagious blew away the crowd with their amazing repertoire of variety music and professional sounds.  We are very excited to bring them back to the stage to celebrate a Saturday night with the crowds.  Sunday night, August 17th, will be a unique night at the bandstand with Wicked Jezabel.  This ALL FEMALE party band will surely perform music that is a rarity on stage at the bandstand.  Having a women-only group allows for a larger mix of performance songs and something that will keep you tapping your toes for hours after the show.  Come on out this weekend for an extraordinary weekend of music and fun!

Lots of Variety This Weekend!

Mon, 4 Aug 2008

This weekend is sure to bring something for everyone! In our opinion, this weekend will boast the most eclectic group of performers that we have had to date. Every night will bring a new music style to the stage. Have you ever been to New Orleans and experiences Zydeco music? If you are in the mood for an original group with that 'Cajun' feel, check out The Crawdaddies on Thursday, August 7th.  On Friday, our own resident jazz performer, Bro. Joe Baione will bring his quartet to the bandstand.  His nationally acclaimed talent will surprise you as his roots are based in Sussex County!  On Saturday, August 9th, come and enjoy one of our most popular groups of the summer!  The very large and exciting U.S. Army Field Band & Soldiers' Chorus will bring a program that is not to be missed.  Finally on Sunday, we have a brand new performer to our stage that will perform 80's rock!  You know you remember it, you know you love it!  This unique group will provide you with entertainment in a way that you haven't heard from the bandstand before!  Check out Judo Chop for an exciting evening in Rehoboth!

Concert Band Weekend

Tue, 29 Jul 2008

What's often nice about outdoor concerts is the ability to see concert bands. There are not many instances where concert bands are the focus and the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand is happy to be a part of this long-standing tradition. This weekend, we have two groups that have been selected to perform. On Saturday, August 2nd, come see the City of Fairfax Band. This elite group always brings a wide variety of music that is both entertaining and professional. On Sunday, August 3rd, the Diamond State Concert Band will perform, boasting the fact that they are a Delaware-based concert band.  Be sure to check out our other groups this weekend as we always try to provide the most variety and entertainment that you can get from FREE performances!  All shows this weekend begin at 8pm.

Rainy Fireworks

Sat, 5 Jul 2008

Thank you to all the dedicated locals and visitors who braved the weather and came out to see our fireworks show! The night, besides the rain, was a success! Our first band, the Volunteers of the U.S. Army Field Band, put on an abbreviated, but wonderful show which led directly into the fireworks display. We thank them for their cooperation during the night as changes continued to happen throughout their show, including shooting off the fireworks a full 45 minutes early. But don't worry, if you want to see a full show from the Volunteers, they are returning on August 14th, so be sure to come out for their FULL show on that night. Unfortunately, since the rain was on its way, there was no way for our second group, The Funsters, to perform that night, but it was safer for all parties involved.  Don't forget, the weekend isn't over!  We still have Jesse Garron performing on Saturday night with his nationally recognized Elvis show including a full, live band!  On Sunday, Remedy will be performing classic rock on the bandstand stage for all to enjoy.  We hope to see you there!

Looking Ahead for the 4th!

Sun, 29 Jun 2008

This upcoming weekend will be jam packed with fantastic entertainment!  The Rehoboth Beach Bandstand is honored to have 2 MILITARY BANDS performing during our July 4th celebration!  On the 3rd, the Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic will be on stage to start off our national holiday.  On Friday, July 4th, ARRIVE EARLY, find some ideal parking, gather the family, and enjoy some dinner from our fantastic food establishments.  Then, come to the bandstand early to get your seats and enjoy the Volunteers of the US Army Field Band at 8pm.  We are honored to be able to have this group perform with us.  They have chosen our unique venue to be able to hold their performance and we are more than thrilled to be able to provide them to you!  Following their performance, a grand celebration of fireworks will be shown.  (For information specifically about the fireworks, visit Rehoboth Beach Main Street)  Directly after the fireworks, don't run back to your car, we have some wonderful entertainment to follow!  The Funsters will begin their performance around 10pm to carry out the celebration into the evening hours.  This performance is partially sponsored by Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats.  But wait...the weekend isn't over!  On Saturday, July 5th, the very popular Jesse Garron will perform as Elvis Presley, a show that is surely not to be missed!  To round out our exciting weekend, Remedy's classic rock styling will play for us on July 6th.  This weekend will boast to be one of our most anticipated to date.  From military to Elvis to classic rock, this weekend will make you proud to be a Rehoboth Beach attendant!
