REHOBOTH BEACH: Cutbacks hit bandstand

REHOBOTH BEACH — Less than three years after Rehoboth Beach rebuilt its bandstand as part of a $31 million multi-year streetscape project, the bandstand's Summer Concert Series has been downsized.
The open-air pavilion will host live music three nights a week instead of the usual four this summer.
With the cancellation of the Thursday performances, music is now restricted to Friday, Saturday and Sunday from June 19 through August 20.
About a quarter of the Bandstand's $50,000 budget was cut, almost all of which is funded by the city, says Corey Groll, program director for the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand.
Groll is hoping donations and sponsorships could help bring back the Thursday performances eventually.
The 2009 schedule has not yet been announced.
