Rehoboth Budget Cuts to Reduce Summer Attraction
Reported by Michael Lopardi | WBOC
Jan 5, 2009

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- The city said it plans to reduce the 2009 Summer Concert Series at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand in hopes of saving thousands of dollars.

Performances will take place three days a week instead of the typical four, program director Corey Groll said. Groll said each performance night costs the city about $1,200 and the reduction could save the city up to $15,000.

"I think everybody just has to tighten their belt a little bit and decide what's important," Groll said.

The city plans to eliminate the Thursday evening performances because those generally draw the smallest crowds, Groll said. The city is still planning for performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from mid-June until Labor Day. The performances will remain free to the public, Groll said.

Groll said he plans to start booking performances within the next few weeks, with hopes of signing some returning performers. He said he hopes the cuts are not permanent and if outside sponors or donors make contributions, the city may be able to add a performance.
