Something that trop-rock fans across the country have called - "refreshing". Something Captain Quint have dubbed... "Real Tropical Rock and Roll" - They have arrived at that destination with "Unsinkable Still.". This is the band’s introspective instructional audio lesson on life. They’ve just about covered every issue - self worth, sarcasm, sabotage, substance abuse, sinking ships, staying power, seduction, slippery slopes, and sunny days and they’ve managed yet again to conjure up an eclectic mix of musical styles in a way that has become undeniably, unmistakably, Captain Quint.

They are not "just a cover band", because they infuse all those songs you've winced to, drunkenly sung along to using your thumb for a mic, or drank wine coolers at the pool at midnight to, with a militant bravado and derring-do that makes them seem brand-new. Everyone's fun-meter will go into meltdown when these lads mount the stage. The Real Geniuses have honed their musical and technical skills while playing regularly for huge crowds of all ages at weddings, private functions, and on the Baltimore/DC club circuit. Their talent and reliability have turned them into a highly sought-after party/wedding/event band. The Real Geniuses focuses mostly on the 80’s new wave/party songs, however, their enormous song catalog spans from the 50’s to the early 90’s, which makes them versatile enough to play just about any event that could use a live band. The band comes fully stocked with male AND female vocalists, so there isn’t a song that these guys (and gal) can’t pull off.

TYPE: Flamenco/Latin
WEBSITE: www.myspace.com/trescompadresband
DESCRIPTION: Tres Compadres is a modern flamenco ensemble that explores the boundaries of flamenco and fusion while embracing the elements of tradition that make this genre of music such an incredible art form. The concept behind the songs recorded on Que Pasa was to reflect the ensemble as a unit. This is not your typical “musicians back up guitarist” flamenco cd. Fast paced unison lines, thoughtful melodies, and complex rhythms interjected with virtuoso solos are featured throughout by all members of the ensemble. The band tackles such flamenco song forms (palos) as buleria, rumba, solea por buleria, tangos, tarantas, and solea. Tres Compadres shows its’ jazzy side on Fandangos, does a Latin inspired version of Chick Corea’s Armandos Rumba, and puts a world music edge to the Cat Steven’s classic Longer Boats.

Laurie Morvan Band New!
Laurie Morvan BandPERFORMANCE DATE: Sunday, July 25th
TYPE: Blues/Rock
WEBSITE: www.lauriemorvan.com
DESCRIPTION: Laurie grew up surrounded by all kinds of music. Her step-father, who Laurie considers to be her “real Dad”, was a hard core country fan. Her mom listened to the lighter side of rock and pop, and Laurie was a typical midwest teenager who listened to all kinds of rock, pop, country, R&B, even disco. She absorbed it all…although she does remember her Dad actually banning her Kiss albums from the house! The one thing that was missing from that period is the blues. Even though Chicago was less than an hour away, in their tiny little microcosm of small town Illinois, Laurie was completely in the dark about the musical form that would soon shape her very existence. Once she started creating her own brand of red hot blues rock, she realized quickly that this was what she was born to do. Her guitar playing style sprang forth as an evolutionary leap into life from that primordial soup of electric blues, rock, and country she was listening to. She says, “Nothing had ever felt so real, so visceral, so expressive, so passionate, so sexual, so nurturing, so spiritual, so painful, so healing, so thrilling, so demanding, so all-encompassing and so perfectly suited to me. I genuinely feel most complete with my guitar in my hands and I don't expect that will ever change.”

Sun, Surf, & '65 New!
Sun, Surf, & '65PERFORMANCE DATE: Sunday, August 8th
TYPE: Oldies
WEBSITE: www.ohboybuddytribute.com
DESCRIPTION: According to guitarist and singer Walt Hetfield the new show contains three sets, “one set of Sun records rockabilly, one set of surf music ala the Ventures, Dick Dale and the Beach Boys and anything from 1965.” Hence the name: Sun, Surf & ’65. Accompanying Hetfield are: drummer Ken Schleifer, guitarist and bassist Mike Long, in addition to bassist and keyboardist Barry Eli. All four members sing. “The reasons we came up with this concept for the band are numerous”, says Hetfield. ”I saw a tribute band called 1964 - they were a Beatles tribute and I thought that it would be interesting to do a tribute to the groups that followed in the wake of the Beatles. Hence 1965 - and we're not just doing british invasion music like the Rolling Stones and Kinks but we are also doing groups from the USA like the Byrds." "We already have a great rockabilly band AND," Hetfield continued "nobody at the beach does real surf music any more. Most beach groups here play Jimmy Buffett or reggae, which is fine for them. So to fill the void, we are also covering music from the Ventures, Dick Dale and the Beach Boys . Thats what I hear in ears while I'm out in the waves. So what we have are three bands in one! The emphasis in this show is on fun."

DESCRIPTION: The United States Navy Band "Sea Chanters" chorus is the official chorus of the United States Navy. The ensemble performs a variety of music ranging from traditional choral music, including the sea chantey, to Broadway musicals. Under the leadership of Senior Chief Musician Russell J. Rathier, the Sea Chanters appear throughout the United States and often perform at the White House, the Vice President's home and for other Washington dignitaries. In 1956, Lt. Harold Fultz, then the Band's assistant leader, organized a group from the Navy School of Music in Anacostia to sing chanteys and patriotic songs for the State of the Nation dinner. An immediate success, Admiral Arleigh Burke, Chief of Naval Operations, transferred them to the Navy Band, named them the "Sea Chanters" and tasked this all-male chorus with perpetuating the songs of the sea. In 1980, the group added women to their ranks and expanded their repertoire to include everything from Brahms to Broadway.

Instead, these guys keep dance floors packed and concerts rocking by breathing new life into classic soul and motown favorites: music that every generation knows and loves. Their charm is due in large part to their relative youth when compared to the style of music they play, and their exuberant live performances reflect both their love of this music and their skill in playing it. The band features a 6pc lineup including a smokin' brass/horn section, and the incomparable Elliot Currie on lead guitar and vocals. The Eddie Sherman Show
The Eddie Sherman ShowPERFORMANCE DATE: Friday, September 3rd
TYPE: Jazz
WEBSITE: www.eddieshermanshow.com
DESCRIPTION: Ed Shockley, Peggy Raley, and Sherman Ward perform music of a sweeter, bygone era as the Eddie Sherman Show. Frontman Sherman Ward and sidekick Ed Shockley have been performing rock, soul, and R&B collectively and individually for more than 30 years. As the 80's rolled in, Ward noticed that the music being produced was deficient in many areas, had little staying power and held no point of interest to him as he listened. Yearning for music with some meaning, he was drawn to the big band era with the magical dynamics of great orchestras and their singers. The music borne of this era fueled the repertoires of performers in nightclubs all across America. He knew he had found his calling. Ward founded The Eddie Sherman Show on the premise of the lost art of the variety show. By inviting other musicians and performers into the mix, a gig was suddenly transformed into a musical showcase.
